This should be interesting

I'm downloading Ubuntu 6.10 as I write this, and will be attempting to install and boot it from a thumb drive. I'm planning to use Ubuntu as a diagnostic tool for my network, I believe Windows 7 may be causing my network drive to lock up, so if it works OK on Ubuntu I'll know.

17 minutes left of the download. Good thing I have a glass of scotch and Iron Chef America to keep me company.

16 minutes left. Some weird fish being cooked on Iron Chef, and what is apparently Panko coated sweet potato.

14 minutes left. This whiskey is very good, I understand that a glass of scotch is good for the heart. I'm not making this up, my uncles doctor told him so. He has heart problems but can't take Aspirin. Whiskey is apparently a very effective alternative, better take my medicine then!

11 minutes left. Red cabbage on top of an undercooked quail egg, as well as a seafood stew with another undercooked egg. Times UP!! The verdict will be passed when Iron Chef returns.

9 minutes to go. Getting exciting now! 414 of 698MB.

8 minutes to go. Too much scotch of course is not good for the heart, and may cause depression or mental health problems, like Chantix apparently, or so says the commercial. Ask your doctor if prescription Johnny Walker is right for you.

5 minutes to go. Moi Ssam Trio is the first course, then Fried Moi, I'm guessing the fish is Moi, I may be wrong. YES! It's Moi.....never heard of it. Smoked Moi with white Kinchi?

4 minutes to go. The Beta fish on my coffee table look nervous, after all, they are Moi fish and it's Moi table! Get it....nevermind.

1 minute to go. Well here goes nothing, if I break my PC it may be a while till I post again. Just for a change right!

How Does It Feel?

I have become a little obsessed with Bob Dylan lately. I was not a big fan previously, but the more I listen to his stuff both old and new, I realize that he is the genius all the critics hailed him to be all along.

So lately I have been watching Bob Dylan documentaries on YouTube, listening to Bob Dylan and reading about Bob Dylan. What I have found is what I suppose I knew all along, that his influence is seen in some way in all the music I like. From Lou Reed and the Velvets, up through Television, Springsteen, Patti Smith, The Clash, Half Man Half Biscuit, Felt. There seems to be a bit of Bob everywhere.

I'm sure I'll soon tire of this, so best to get it down here now.

Avatar

Went to see Avatar last night. I'm not going to write a review as I am not a movie critic, suffice to say I was very impressed with the overall effect. I did see the 2D version as the theater I went to didn't show 3d, plus I only have one good eye which means that I wouldn't get the 3d effect anyway. The CGI was incredible, a lot of the time I could not distinguish what was real and what was not, sort of like a cable news viewer.

There were some clumsy parts. As my friend pointed out when we left, with all the cash spent on CGI did we have to have troops in Robocop style walking gun towers? Also, the scenes in which the tall cat people are praying to mother planet raised a silly smile. It did look like Glastonbury festival during an Orbital performance.

All in all very enjoyable though, and a good night all round. From now on though expect pre and post Avatar movies. As there was with the Matrix, when the studios see how popular this technology is they are bound to produce a hundred bad movies using it.

3 going on 13

My son won't go to bed anymore.

It's a war of will each night in which I
feel horrible about leaving him crying upstairs, even though I know
he's just doing it to stay up longer. I try to keep reminding myself
that I chose to be a parent, he didn't choose to be a son.

Blimey! Talk about a lazy bugger.

Two months since my last post. It's funny, the intention is always there to write the blog regularly, but something always seems to come up. If it's not DIY then it's Halloween and Christmas and New Year. Or trying to teach my computer to understand my accent for speech recognition, or working. The truth is I haven't really had anything to write about lately, I mean there's been a lot going on, but nothing silly enough to occupy this little part of my mind. This is why Richard Herring deserves so much credit and praise, or maybe confused looks.

So....it's 2010, who'd have thought it. Where is the trip to Jupiter in pursuit of the monolith? That's what I want to know. And then there's flying cars, and robots that actually do something useful instead of the bloody Roomba! And computers that understand a Welshamericanandstuff accent.

In other rambleish, the baby is due next month, I can't believe she's nearly here already. She's due five days before my birthday. Life goes on within you and without you as a deceased Liverpudlian (the one who shares a birthday with me) once said. Till next time campers!
